Change That FilterFilter

Sample maintenance reaps big rewards!

If you have a seasonal maintenance contract with Jan V Anthony Heating and Cooling, our technician will change your heating and cooling filters as part of the maintenance visit. But that doesn’t mean you can ignore them in between! Filters should be changed from once a month to once every three months, depending on the type of filters you use.

Standard filters are made of fiberglass and rimmed with light cardboard. These filters are designed to keep your equipment running efficiently by capturing particles in the air. These filters are not intended to clean the air. Standard filters should be changed monthly while heating or cooling equipment is in use.

If you want to filter the air that’s running through your equipment for improved air quality, you’ll need higher efficiency filters designed to trap smaller particles such as dust and pet dander. These high efficiency filters should be changed every three months.

Another option would be permanent filters, which use a slight electrostatic charge to attract airborne particles, and may also include activated charcoal to reduce odors. These filters are not replaced, but must be washed regularly.

During our next visit, ask our technician where the filters in your equipment are located and how to change them, and which filter types would be best for your home.
